How To Create a Faux Concrete Finish on Furniture with Country Chic Paint

How To Create a Faux Concrete Finish on Furniture with Country Chic Paint

Hi there it's Rosanne here from Country Chic Paint. Today I'm going to show you how to create a faux concrete or cement finish by layering paint glazing and textures. Stay tuned to see how you can replicate this look! I always love finding new ways to get creative with paint and making faux finishes on furniture can be so much fun Today I'll be using the following supplies we have a few colors of our All-in-One furniture paint; we have Lazy Linen, Rocky Mountain, Simplicity, and Pebble Beach. We will also be using our Texture Powder as well as our Clear Glaze In addition I'm going to use some stir sticks, a putty knife, a paintbrush, as well as a lint-free rag.

Before you get started make sure your piece is nice and clean with no contaminants on it. The first thing I. Want to do is create a base layer of texture so I'm going to mix some of the Lazy Linen with Texture Powder in approximately a one-to-one ratio. There's no need to be completely exact so you can just eyeball this Now I'm just gonna mix it up and stir it until it's all blended well together Now I'm going to use a putty knife to apply the textured paint all over this surface Okay so what you want to do is create a little bit of texture here so you don't want to have it completely smooth.

What you can do is let it tack up for about 15 minutes and then go over it again with your putty knife to create even more texture. After you've had it sit for a little while you can take your putty knife and drag it across your project again to add a bit more texture When you're happy with how the texture looks you want to leave it to dry for probably at least 12 hours depending on how thick your layer was. To speed up the process I had prepared this board and this is now completely dry So what I'm going to do next is apply some different paint colors to create more variation in color. I'm going to apply some Rocky Mountain as well as some Simplicity in little sections on my board here and I'm going to use the putty knife again.

You will always want to make sure you stir your paint well and you don't want this to look perfect you're going for very random splotches of paint Next I'm going to open up the Rocky Mountain. I'm going to apply that with my stir stick randomly as well and then I'm just going to use my putty knife again to create a random kind of textured color variation here. So I'm going to leave this to dry now before moving on to the next step So once you've let this part dry for about one to two hours you're ready to move on to glazing which is the really fun part. To prepare for the glazing aspect I already prepared three different colors of glaze simply by taking our Clear Glaze and then mixing it up with Pebble Beach, Lazy Linen and Rocky Mountain in a four-part glaze to one part paint ratio.

By using different glaze colors we can create a lot of depth to this look. The first layer glaze that I'm going to apply is the Pebble Beach glaze. So what you're going to do is just apply one coat of glaze with a paintbrush and then gently wipe away the excess with a damp rag So you want to repeat the glazing process with all three colors. You want to make sure that the glaze has enough time to completely dry before you do the next color otherwise the colors will just all blend in together.

So this Pebble Beach glaze is now dry so we're going to take our Rocky Mountain glaze and do the same thing. We just apply it with a brush and we're just going to wipe it away with a damp rag Now to tie it all in together I'll finish with one coat of Lazy Linen glaze If you're not completely happy with the color when you're finished you can always add another layer or two of glaze and just play around with it until you're happy with how it looks So that's all there is to it! Here's an example of what it looks like on top of this stool. This type of finish would be great to use on the base of a lamp, on flower pots, on candlesticks, or even the top of a dresser. How To Choose Paint Colors for your FurnitureHow To Pick a Paint Color

How To Choose Paint Colors for your FurnitureHow To Pick a Paint Color

Hi there, it's Rosanne again from Country Chic Paint. We often get questions from customers about how to choose colors for their projects. I completely understand how hard it is to pick a color sometimes I often changed my mind about four or five times before I get started on a piece. With so many colors and color combination possibilities it can be hard to decide which one you love the most Luckily I have a few tips to share that will help you narrow things down, so stay tuned In this video I'll go over some of our most popular colors but before I do that I'd like to share a quick tip with you One of the best things you can do before starting your project is to find a piece of scrap wood or molding for example and paint it in color or color combination that you have in mind for your project you can place this test piece in a part of your home where your piece will go so you can see if it fits with the space and also if the color combination works well together.

Most of us are drawn to neutrals for furniture so I'd like to share some of our most popular neutral colors with you. If you're a bit intimidated by color or you're worried about matching your furniture with the rest of your home, neutrals are a safe option. They're easy to match with anything and they won't clash or go out of style We have three whites in our line Simplicity; a pure white, Vanilla Frosting; an off-white, and Cheesecake; a warm creamy white. All of these are very popular.

They can be paired with any other color in our line and you're guaranteed to have beautiful results Grays are also a beautiful and trendy option. We have several grays in our line ranging from very light like Lazy Linen, to medium grays like Pebble Beach and Cobblestone, right down to the dark grays like Hurricane and Rocky Mountain Of course you can't go wrong with a classic black like Liquorice either. For people who like a bit of a subtle hint of color I would suggest you try Elegance and Harmony. They go well with anything on their own or combined together you can also let your piece get you in the right direction here's what two of our retailers suggest you look for when picking a color for your project Hi, I'm Julie Zielinski and I'm Stacy Fahrenbruch and where the Salvage Sisters & Co.

Out of Omaha, NE. When picking the right color for a piece of furniture we definitely look at the shapes and lines on the furniture. If it's something more feminine and dainty we probably use a lighter, brighter color or something maybe more pastel. If it's more masculine and a bigger, chunkier then we probably will use a darker color like a dark blue, charcoal, gray, black and well of course we always love white pretty much on everything Now some of you might be more conservative in your decorating style than others but even if you typically go for neutrals I would suggest you try and go bold every once in awhile Our color line has many great options if you're looking for a color to make your piece pop.

For a girl's room I would suggest trying Vintage Cupcake if you're going for a soft, feminine look For something more bold, try our Full Bloom which is a beautiful coral, or Cherry Blossom, a darker pink. Another color that can make your piece pop is Devotion, our bright red, or Fresh Mustard. As the name suggests, a mustard yellow color. You can even mix and match colors and use them in different sections on your piece or layer and distress the different colors Cait Miller, one of our regular bloggers has some tips for you regarding some popular colors you might want to try Hi, I'm Cait from Little City Farmhouse Picking  a paint color is one of my favorite parts of every project.

Usually the style of the furniture will tell me what direction I. Want to go. If I'm going for a farmhouse style I really tend towards neutrals. I.

Love grays. Coastal Fog from the limited edition color line up right now is one of my absolute favorites. Vanilla Frosting I paint with all the time. It's such a great white that goes with everything If I really want a pop of color my favorites are Rustic Charm and Bliss Everybody loves turquoise right now If your stuck on a color, my number one suggestion would be to pick your top two or three and order the little sample jars Paint some swatches on, that's a great way to see what color would match your house and what color you love the most On our website we have lots of resources available to help you choose exactly what products you need including examples of all our finishing products in use, sample swatches of some great color combinations, and the inspiration page full of beautiful painted pieces And there's the blog as well where we constantly add new pieces to inspire you so make sure you take a look around There's something there for every style Kari Frazer from ReLoving Furniture in Victoria, BC also has some great tips for you to help you pick colors At ReLoving Furniture we're often asked how we pick colors for our pieces so what inspires us to pick certain colors for certain pieces and there are loads of colors to pick from in the Country Chic color line so of course that would be really difficult What we do is first we look at the style of the piece and let's say it's French Country.

We might get excited to paint something very chippy white. We also have a French-themed night that we do in November and there's a lot of grays Lazy Linen, Simplicity, Pebble Beach. Those colors grays and whites and creams like Vanilla Frosting. Also with the color of wood you might have a different effect so if it's a dark piece of wood that you're starting with when you paint with Simplicity or white then the dark wood really pops through if you're painting with a medium tone wood like mahogany I find that Sage Advice really pops with that wood when you're distressing.

Another thing that influences our choice of color is our markets. Here on the Pacific Northwest we get asked a lot for turquoise and blues as well as white so a lot of the Bliss, Tropical Cocktail and Simplicity are used and then next would be the Sage Advice and Elegance but its unique to the region and the population and even sometimes the time of the year influences what we might paint with. How to Apply A Stencil on Furniture

How to Apply A Stencil on Furniture

How to Apply A Stencil to Furniture For todays tutorial you will need:
A Project that you wish to stencil and a coordinating paint color. Today we are using Vintage Storehouse
Chalk Based paint in the color Cotton. A Paper plate and a some paper towels
A Stiff bristled brush or a stencil brush Masking Tape
A Stencil - today we are using this french script stencil by Royal Design Studio. Step 1: Make sure the surface of your project
is clean of any dust or oil residue and align your stencil where you want your design.

For
this project, we want to continue the stencil down from the drawer above. Tape it in place
with masking tape or adhesive. Step 2: Apply the paint to the stencil. The
key to getting a good stencil is too apply a very small amount of paint at a time.

Dip
the tip of your brush into your paint and wipe the excess of on a paper plate or paper
towel, so that only a small amount is still on the brush. Then apply over your stencil
in a swirling motion, making sure to get into all the small lines. Step 3: Remove the stencil immediately and
let the paint dry. Step 4: Repeat steps1 through 3, realigning
your stencil until the entire surface is covered.

Step 5: Once youve finished applying the
stencil, you might with to touch up a few areas with a small detail brush. Maintenance:
We recommend sealing in your painted stencil with a layer of wax, polyurethane or hemp
seed oil prior to heavy use. We chose to apply antiquing powder and a layer of wax to finish
this project. And thats how you apply a
stencil to furniture..

How To Add Metallic Effects To Furniture - Tutorial How To Use Metallic Cream

How To Add Metallic Effects To Furniture - Tutorial How To Use Metallic Cream

Hi There, my name is Rosanne, and I am the co-founder of Country Chic Paint! In this video, I want introduce you to our
metallic creams. They are a water-based and
environmentally friendly product with low VOCs. They're  really fun and super easy to work
with. We have them currently available in four different colors.

This is our Silver Bullet then we have Trigger whic is pewter color   The next one is Belt bBuckle which is like an antique bronze color. And finally there is Pocket Watch which is a pretty nice bright gold If you want to see what colors we
currently have available, I suggest you go and check out our website!
In this tutorial I'll show you how easy it is to add a bit of charm to any project. I'm going to show you how to
use our Silver Bullet metalli ccream on this
jewelry box. We've already fully prepared it.

We painted the base coat in Dark Roast then we painted it with Elegance, and we
added a little embossed detail on the top. If you want
to see more about using our paint embossing plaster, or learn about distressing I suggest you check out our other
videos. You can find them on the tutorial page on our website. We are now going to play with this
Silver Bullet metalli cream to add some glamour to piece.

I'm going to use one of our wax brushes to apply it. You can also
use a chip brush or a cloth or sponge if you want and with this you need very little. So you want to apply this very sparingly and you'll see that a little goes a long
way! So you can already see what a big
difference a little bit of metallic makes for your project. It can
really transform your piece into something extraordinary.

So you can even use your fingers to
apply the metallic cream in detailed areas if you'd like. It barely has any smell to it and you can feel good about using it. After you're done using your brush you can just clean it
with soap and water. Since it's water based cleanup is a breeze.

Let me show you a
few of our other metallic colors. I'll show you on the vases that we
painted. We're going to be using our Belt Buckle on this  Cranberry Sauce vase. You just need a tiny bit of this stuff, a little
goes a long way.

So that is our Belt Buckle! On thhis one, which is our Midnight Sky color we're going to use the pewter color which we call Trigger. So for this  color I'm using a chip brush and it's
very subtle. If the colors are very similar it's
just a very subtle highlight. I mean you can make it as
obvious as you want.

You can apply more to give it more opaque
coverage, but I'm just trying to hit the highlights with it. So that was Trigger. On this Elegance color, we're going to put our Silver Bullet.   This is Sweet Dreams.

We've already
applied our gold color, our Pocket Watch, on this vase.    .
